Yuri Nikolajewitsch Krylow ( Russian Юрий Николаевич Крылов ; born March 11, 1930 near Krasnogorsk , Russian SFSR , † November 4, 1979 in Moscow ) was a Soviet ice hockey player , coach and Olympic champion .
Career
Yuri Krylov, who was both a defender and a right winger, made his debut in the 1951/52 season for HK Dynamo Moscow in the Soviet championship. The 21-year-old Krylow played at the side of the experienced Alexander Uvarow and Valentin Kusin , so that he quickly matured into a high performer. In the season 1953/54 the attack series to Uvarow scored 53 goals in 16 games, of which Krylow scored 14 and Dynamo won the Soviet championship .
A year earlier, Dynamo won the USSR Cup competition. At the end of his career, Krylow was mostly used as a defender before ending his playing career in 1965. In total, he scored 140 goals in 344 games in the top Soviet league. In 1954 he was named Honored Master of Sports of the USSR , in 1956 he was elected to the all-star team of the elite league . After the end of his career, his jersey number 10 was honored with a banner in the Luschniki Arena .
Between 1966 and 1975 he worked as a coach at Sdjuschor Moscow , the youth team of Dynamo Moscow, after graduating from the GZOFILK coaching academy in 1964.
International
Yuri Krylov was one of the first players of the Soviet Union and made his debut on January 29, 1954 in the game against Finland for them. He took part in the world championships in 1954 , 1955 , 1958 and 1959 , in which he was world champion twice and vice world champion three times.
In addition, he was in his country's squad at the 1956 Winter Olympics , which was also the world championship , in which he and his team became Olympic champions. In total, he completed 70 international matches for the USSR, in which he scored 29 goals.
