Käßlitz is a district of Heldburg in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

location

Käßlitz is located in the Heldburger Land between wooded hills at the southernmost tip of Thuringia on the county road 502. The district lies east, south and west on the border with Bavaria . The neighboring village is Poppenhausen .

history

The settlement of the area began with the construction of a castle in the swamp. The ownership structure has changed continuously. The first documentary mention took place on December 9, 1157. There were border problems not only in the GDR , but also in the days of the Saxon Landwehr . The Landwehr ran between Poppenhausen, Gleismuthhausen and Käßlitz between the Electoral Saxon Office of Heldburg within the Care of Coburg and the County of Henneberg , after the Care of Coburg had fallen from the Franconian Counts of Henneberg to the Upper Saxon Wettins in the second half of the 14th century .

The lords of Lichtenstein owned the manor for years . After the death of the last of the von Lichtenstein family, Käßlitz fell to the Banz monastery and later to the Würzburg monastery , which partially sold its rights. In 1839 the place finally came to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen .

103 inhabitants live in the district. The Alstergrund nature reserve with border strips is located south of the municipality near the state border .
