The Kaizer Chiefs Johannesburg are a South African football club that was founded on January 7, 1970 in the Johannesburg district of Soweto . The Kaizer Chiefs are also affectionately known in South Africa as AmaKhosi ( isiZulu , for example: "The Chiefs") or Glamor Boys (for example, " Glamor Boys ").
The Kaizer Chiefs are named after their founder, the South African soccer legend Kaizer Motaung , now president of the club, and the Atlanta Chiefs from the North American Soccer League , where he used to play.
Since founding the League Kaizer Chiefs dominate along with the Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns , the Premier Soccer League in South Africa. They have a great rivalry with the Orlando Pirates, who also play in Soweto . The Kaizer Chiefs are one of the most popular clubs in South Africa. The team's venue is the FNB Stadium , which as Soccer City was also the venue for various games of the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, including the opening and the final. Since the last renovation, the stadium has a capacity of 94,700 spectators.
