Kalvin Mark Phillips (born December 2, 1995 in Leeds ) is an English football player who is currently under contract with Leeds United . The defensive midfielder can also play the role of central defender .

Career

After previously playing in the club's youth academy, Phillips signed his first professional contract with Leeds United in the summer of 2014 . In the 2014/15 season , however, he mainly worked for the development and U-18 team. He was in the first team's squad for the first time in the FA Cup game on January 4, 2015 against AFC Sunderland . He made his debut for the professional team on April 6, 2015 in the 3: 4 away defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers . In the 1: 2 home defeat in the next league game against Cardiff City , he scored his first goal for the Peacocks in only his second professional appearance . At the end of the season he signed a new two-year contract. It wasn't until the 2016/17 season that the midfielder established himself in the starting line-up and played in 40 games. He started the next 2017/18 season with a brace in a 3-2 away win against Bolton Wanderers . In the rest of the season, he met five more times and assisted three more. At the end of the 2018/19 season, he and his team ranked third and qualified for the play-offs for promotion to the first-class Premier League , in which, however, they already failed in the semifinals against Derby County . With 44 appearances, the defensive midfielder made a major contribution to the strong season.
