Jack David Harrison (born November 20, 1996 in Stoke-on-Trent ) is an English football player who is currently on loan from Manchester City to Leeds United . The winger is a former England U21 international .

Club career

Beginnings

Jack Harrison, who was born in Stoke-on-Trent and grew up in Bolton , began his football training at the youth academy of Liverpool FC . He was only there for a short time, however, as he joined the Manchester United youth team at the age of seven . He played in the Red Devils Academy for seven years before abandoning his footballing ambitions for the time being because of education and moving to the private Berkshire School in Sheffield , Massachusetts . He played on the school team there and showed excellent performance. For the 2015 season, Harrison received a Wake Forest University scholarship to play football for the Demon Deacons . He started in all of the 22 league games in which he scored eight goals and eleven assists. He then played for the Manhattan SC , a farm team of the MLS - franchise New York City FC .

New York City FC

His strong performances were closely monitored by first division clubs and in December 2015 New York City FC Harrison tried to secure itself as a homegrown player . The MLS turned it down, however, and Harrison signed up for the 2016 MLS SuperDraft as the youngest player of the year . On January 14, 2016, he was selected as the 1st pick by Chicago Fire , which however immediately ceded the rights to Harrison in a trade to New York City FC and received the fourth pick Brandon Vincent and money. Shortly after the draft, he was discovered to have a broken pelvic bone, causing him to be out for three months. His MLS debut was delayed until May 21, 2016 (11th match day), when he came on for Tommy McNamara in the historic 7-0 home defeat by the New York Red Bulls in the 57th minute of the game . In his next outing on June 3 (matchday 13) in the 3-2 home defeat against Real Salt Lake , he scored his first goal. As a result, he quickly established himself as a regular and ended his first game year in 2016 after 23 league appearances in which he scored one goal and seven assists.

For the next season 2017 he received a green card together with his teammates Eirik Johansen and Ronald Matarrita and kept his regular place on the right wing . On April 30, 2017 (8th matchday) he scored a brace in a 3-2 away win against the Columbus Crew . His good performances in the jersey of the Pigeons were also praised by the former world class players Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard , who let their careers end with New York City FC. This season Harrison was used in 36 league games, in which he was able to record ten goals and three assists.

Manchester City

On January 30, 2018, the sister club Manchester City signed Harrison and equipped him with a four and a half year contract.

Loan to Middlesbrough FC

The Citizens lent him the same day for the remainder of the season 2017/18 to second division FC Middlesbrough out. On February 17, 2018 (32nd matchday) he made his debut in the 0-1 away defeat against Cardiff City when he came on for Jonathan Howson in the 83rd minute of the game . However, he did not manage to get past Adama Traoré and Stewart Downing and therefore came under head coach Tony Pulis only to four short appearances for Boro .

Loan to Leeds United

In the summer of 2018 he returned to Manchester City for the time being and took part in the pre-season phase. On July 30, 2018, he was loaned to the second division Leeds United for the entire 2018/19 season. He made his debut on August 5, 2018 (1st matchday) in a 3-1 home win over Stoke City , when he came on for Ezgjan Alioski in the closing stages . With the Whites he was in the promotion ranks from the start and head coach Marcelo Bielsa quickly tied him into the starting lineup. On September 15 (7th matchday) he equalized the 1-1 final score in the 89th minute in the away game against Millwall FC . Due to injury problems, however, he slipped out of the first team again in October 2018 and only at the end of 2018 could he play his way back into the team. In the second half of the season he started regularly, but missed direct promotion with Leeds United due to a very weak end of the season and had to go to the promotion playoffs. There they failed in the semifinals at Derby County, which was trained by his former teammate Frank Lampard . Harrison completed 39 league games that season, in which he scored four goals and prepared as many.

Following the loan, Harrison returned to Manchester City. Leeds United were, however, according to media reports, keen to sign the winger, but could not agree on a move with the Citizens . On July 1, 2019, he initially signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester City. Leeds United signed him on the same day again for a year on loan and also secured a purchase option. He scored his first goal of the season in a 3-1 away win against Bristol City on August 4, 2019 (1st matchday) . His strong performances in November 2019 earned him a nomination for Player of the Month , who eventually became Jarrod Bowen . Also in this 2019/20 season he played with the Whites for promotion to the Premier League , ultimately even winning the championship superiorly and Leeds returned to the Premier League after 16 years of abstinence. Harrison completed all 46 league games in which he scored six goals and eight assists.

Harrison moved to Leeds United on loan again on August 10, 2020.
