Karabulak ( Russian Карабулак , Ingush ИльдаргӀал / Ildarghal) is a city in the North Caucasian Republic of Ingushetia in Russia with 30,961 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus about 18 km northeast of the republic capital Magas on the Sunscha , a right tributary of the Terek , in close proximity to Chechnya .
Karabulak is administratively directly subordinate to the republic.
The city is located on the Beslan - Grozny - Gudermes railway ( Karabulakski station ), which opened in 1894, but is currently not used regularly due to the Chechen wars. South of Karabulak the M29 highway runs past Rostov-on-Don - Azerbaijani border.
history
In the place of today's city, the Stanitsa Karabulakskaya of the Terek Cossacks was built in the 19th century .
In 1995 the place was granted city rights after its population had risen sharply following the separation of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Republic into the independent republics of Chechnya and Ingushetia in 1991 and the First Chechen War due to resettlers and refugees.
In June 2004, the city was one of the targets of Chechen and Ingush rebels during the Second Chechen War .

There is a chemical plant in Karabulak . Ingushneftegasprom AG is currently trying to resume oil production in the area , which has practically come to a standstill due to the Chechen wars.
