Karen Montgomery

Karen Montgomery (born November 28, 1949 in Chicago - † December 4, 2015 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress and film producer .

life and career

Montgomery attended the University of California at Berkeley , where he studied psychology and science . She completed her studies with a Bachelor of Studies (BS).

In the late 1970s, Montgomery went to Los Angeles to become an actress. There she attended acting seminars and workshops with the well-known actor and acting coach Roy London (1943-1993). In Hollywood she met the actress Lois Chiles , with whom she later worked several times. In 1978 she worked with the well-known writer and screenwriter Waldo Salt as a “story analyst” on the film Coming Home . She then worked as a story analyst for IPC Films. She then went to the American Filmworks production company as Director of Development. In the 1980s, she worked with producer Bruce Gilbert even in the movie The Morning After (The Morning After) together.

In parallel to her career behind the camera, Montgomery continued to work as an actress during this time.

From the late 1970s she took on several episode roles in television series. In 1978 she was in the crime series Kojak . In 1981 she played the role of "Fanny Irwin" in the series Nero Wolfe . She also took part in Aloha Paradise in 1981. In 1993 she was in LA Law - Star Attorneys, Tricks, Trials to See.

She achieved greater fame especially in the role of "Beata" in the episode Angel One of Starship Enterprise: The Next Century of 1988. There Montgomery had a leading role in the episode . She was seen in a flashback in another episode of Star Trek.

Montgomery also appeared in supporting roles in various cinema and television films: 1979 in Die Pensionner-Gang , 1980 in Willie & Phil by director Paul Mazursky and also in 1980 in From Coast to Coast . In 1986 she starred in the television film Condor . In 1987 she was seen in the role of "Karen" in Amazons on the Moon or Why the Americans have the channel full by director Joe Dante .

In 2009 the episode film Imps * , which had been filmed in the 1980s but has not been released, was released on DVD . In this comedy , a series of skits and parodies , Montgomery played a secretary.

She has been an independent film producer since the early 1990s. She shifted her focus to this area. Her first film Nobody Can Get Out Of Here was released in 1991. In 1997, she produced Two Singles in LA. In 2000, she co-produced Row Your Boat, starring Jon Bon Jovi . In 2005 Montgomery was the producer of Special Thanks to Roy London , a documentary about the life of Roy London . Montgomery, who was a close friend of Roy London until his death, had carried out intensive research on his work as an acting coach together with Lois Chiles, Rhonda Aldrich and Julie Warner since 2002 . In particular, she succeeded in re-presenting the few available interviews in London to the public as part of the documentation. Montgomery's documentary features over 50 interviews with actors and friends of Roy London, including Sharon Stone , Julie Warner, Lois Chiles, Jeff Goldblum , Patrick Swayze , Patricia Arquette and Geena Davis . It premiered at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival . The film was also successfully screened at the Boston Film Festival and the Santa Barbara Festival.

2008 appeared A Sense of Wonder , which premiered in September 2008 at the Vancouver International Film Festival. Pre-premieres were successfully held at the Environmental Film Festival and the Maine International Film Festival. The documentary describes the life of the American scientist Rachel Carson . Kaiulani Lee can be seen as Carson in scenes from the game . The film was also shown at the 2009 Black Bear Film Festival.

Montgomery was married to the Welsh director Christopher Monger ( The Englishman Who Climbed A Hill And Comed Down From A Mountain ) .

Karen Montgomery last lived in Los Angeles and died of cancer at the age of 66.
