The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a rock band founded in New York in 2000 . The band consists of singer and pianist Karen O, guitarist and keyboardist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase.
history
Karen Orzolek (Karen O) and Nicholas "Nick" Zinner formed the band in 2000 as a folk duo under the original name Unitard . After a first drummer left the band, Brian Chase joined the lineup. From the beginning with acoustic guitar and vocals, the band, inspired by the avant punk scene in Ohio , increasingly switched to electric guitars and finally defined their style, which can best be described as indie rock , but often also under art- Punk and Garage Rock is classified.
After support gigs for The Strokes and The White Stripes , the band released their first EP titled Yeah Yeah Yeahs in 2001 . The EP is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Master because of a necklace with the pendant Master on the cover photo . After further appearances with Sleater-Kinney , Liars and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion , the second EP Machine was released in 2002 .
In 2003, the first studio album was finally released on Interscope with the title Fever to Tell . The album received mostly very positive reviews and was nominated for a Grammy in 2004 in the Best Alternative Music Album category. According to the British daily The Guardian , Fever to Tell has sold more than a million times.
From the second album Show Your Bones , which followed in autumn 2006, the band was supported by guitarist Imaad Wasif during live performances. The first single from the album was Gold Lion . In 2007 the EP Is Is was released .
The planned for April 2009 release of the third album It's Blitz! was brought forward to March 10th after the album was leaked on the internet in February. Since the tour for this album, David Pajo has replaced Imaad Wasif as the second guitarist for live performances.
The fourth album, entitled Mosquito , was released on April 16, 2013.
