Karl-Friedrich Schweickhard (born June 18, 1883 in Karlsruhe , † July 5, 1968 in Königsfeld-Sommerzell ) was a German officer , most recently in the rank of General of the Air Force Air Force .

Life

Schweickhard was the son of the Secret Forestry Council Friedrich Schweickhard and his wife Emilie (née Salzer). After leaving school, he joined on 1 October 1902 as one-year volunteer in the fifth Baden Infantry Regiment. 113 of the Württemberg army one, he was appointed lieutenant he received January 27, 1904. On July 27, 1915, he became the leader of Feldfliegerabteilung 11 , where he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class on October 6, 1915. Three months later, on October 27, he moved to Feldfliegerabteilung 22 , where he was awarded the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross on March 4, 1916, and the Knight's Cross of the Military Karl Friedrich Order of Merit on June 14, 1916 . On July 11, 1916, he was transferred to the Air Force Inspectorate (IdFlieg), where he was initially a training officer at the Aircraft Replacement Department 9 , and from September 1, he became head of department at IdFlieg. On October 30, 1916, he married Grete Waltz in Freiburg im Breisgau . On January 30, 1917, he was appointed group leader of the aviators. On October 18, 1917 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords.

On February 19, 1919 he was company commander of the 11th Company of Infantry Regiment 113 and on March 26th he was assigned to Reichswehr Rifle Battalion 5 . On October 1 of the following year he was company commander of the 16th company of the Reichswehr Infantry Regiment 113 , and by January 1921 company commander of the 16th company of the 14th (Baden) Infantry Regiment . On September 1, 1923, he moved to the 6th Company of the 15th Infantry Regiment in the same position . Promoted to major on January 1, 1926 , he was appointed commander of the 1st Battalion in the 14th (Baden) Infantry Regiment on February 1, 1929, and as such was promoted to lieutenant colonel on November 1, 1930 . On April 1, 1931, he was transferred to the staff of the 13th (Württemberg) Infantry Regiment . On March 1, 1933, he was promoted to adjutant in the staff of Group Command I and in the following month to colonel .

On February 28, 1934, he moved from the Army to the Air Force in Luftkreiskommando III and was promoted to Major General on April 1, 1934 . On April 1 of the following year he took over the command of the Air District Command I . On October 2, 1936, he was promoted to lieutenant general . From January 1, 1938, until its dissolution, he led the Air Force Association . On April 1, 1938 he became chief of the special staff W , where he received the rank of General of the Aviators on June 1, 1938. On May 4, 1939 he was awarded the Spanish Military Merit Order III. Class and on June 6, 1939 was awarded the Spanish Cross in Silver. On September 30, 1939 he was released from active military service.

Recalled the next day, he worked for the Reich Minister for Aviation and the head of training. From May 20, 1940, he was also an officer judge at the Reich Court Martial . On October 31 of the same year he was again released from active military service and transferred to the Führerreserve , from which he was released on July 31, 1942 at his own request.
