Karl-Heinz Ignatz Kerscher (born May 3, 1943 in Hamburg ) is a German educationalist and has been a retired professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg since 2008 .

Life

Karl-Heinz Ignatz Kerscher's childhood was shaped by the Second World War . He experienced the bombing of Hamburg in the air raid shelter. The father, actually a professional musician, was lost as a soldier on the Eastern Front before he was two years old. These experiences led him to a pacifist conviction early on.

Kerscher studied economics , sociology , educational science , artistic design and social pedagogy at the University of Hamburg and at the Hamburg Lerchenfeld School of Art on the basis of a scholarship for highly gifted students. In 1974 he did his doctorate at the University of Hamburg with Peter Martin Roeder , Rudolf Sieverts and Janpeter Kob with a dissertation on "Sex Education and Criminal Law" . For several semesters, he participated as a student representative in a third-party appointment committee in the university's self-administration.

By giving seminars on the subject of “sexuality and domination” for students at the Junge Volkshochschule and the University of Hamburg , Kerscher was also part of the 1968 school and student movement . Here he also got to know the later founder and director of the Schmidt Theater , Cornelius Littmann and Gunter Schmidt from the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . As a painter, Kerscher created modern painting and organized, among other things, an art exhibition of his own works in Paris. As a musician, he played in several Hamburg jazz bands .

Career

Kerscher began his teaching activity as a lecturer at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences and Diakonenanstalt des Rauhen Haus in Hamburg, where he held courses together with Günter Amendt . From 1974 he worked at the Pedagogical University of Lower Saxony - Dept. Lüneburg, (since 1988 University of Lüneburg and from 2007 Leuphana University of Lüneburg) as an academic adviser, university lecturer and professor, where he worked with Ingrid Classen-Bauer and Jörg Ziegenspeck up to his Retired 2008 worked together.

Kerscher has published several books on sex education and the reform of sex criminal law . In 1973, for example, with “Sexualpädagogik und Criminalrecht” (Sex Education and Criminal Law) in Luchterhand-Verlag, he advocated a depenalization of youthful sexual behavior. In 1974 “Sexualität und Erbildung” was published by Achenbach-Verlag Giessen and was sold several times as pirated printing. From the internship in the Fuhlsbüttel prison and the juvenile prison in Hamburg-Vierlande, a book about " Social Theory of Crime " was published in 1977 by Beltz Verlag .

Out of commitment to sexual reforms, Kerscher became a member of the German Society for Sexual Research , the Austrian Society for Sexual Research and the German Society for Social Scientific Sex Research (DGSS) , of which he was a board member for several years. Here he also got to know and appreciate the sexual reformist Oswalt Kolle as well as the founder of the DGSS, Rolf Gindorf and the sex researcher Ernest Bornemann . In this context he was the editor of the anthology “Conflict Field Sexuality” published in 1977 by Luchterhand-Verlag .

In addition to his academic work, Kerscher studied alternative practitioners at the Munich Heilpraktiker College and Waldorf school teachers at the Institute for Waldorf Education in Kassel.
He also offered numerous community college seminars on autogenic training and positive thinking . Together with Klaus Tuschinsky, the head of the Federal Professional Group Banks and Savings Bank of the German Employees' Union (DAG), he conducted many training courses for works and staff councils on the topics of rhetoric and bullying . In this context, a book about "Mobbing and Bossing" was published by DAG-Verlag in 1995 in cooperation with Klaus Koch .

In the course of his life, Kerscher made numerous trips to Europe, Brazil and North Africa as well as in East Asia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, with a focus on the Philippines .
After his retirement, Kerscher was active as a lecturer for curative nurses at the IWK and as a discussion group leader in a senior citizens' residence. In addition, in his old age he worked on extended cruises as a lecturer on ships of the AIDA ( AIDAcara ) and the MSC ( MSC Fantasia , MSC Orchestra , MSC Poesia ). By overseeing the cruises, he got to know many other countries and ports, from Northern Europe to the North Cape, all the countries bordering the Baltic Sea, numerous Mediterranean ports, Madeira and the Canary Islands as well as ports in Morocco. In this context, he published numerous cruise guides and short stories.

Kerscher continued to publish various books and essays until 2020. He optimistically presents postmodern education as education of the 21st century. Creativity and innovation should be encouraged. This pedagogy must be fascinating and stimulating. After the nuclear reactor disaster in Fukushima, she was looking for funding opportunities for sensitivity and responsibility. Your task is to promote cultural and intellectuality, tolerance and humanity, creativity and qualifications. In addition, the new pedagogy should represent positions that are characterized by Kerscher through an emphasis on pleasure and sensual pleasure , through pacifism and altruism and as peace education . Between doomsday scenarios and technological and social utopias , this type of postmodern pedagogy also opens up perspectives on “space education” , an education with the prospect of an extraterrestrial presence of humanity in the future.
