Karl August von Beulwitz

Karl August von Beulwitz (born April 28, 1736 in Rudolstadt , † January 14, 1799 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and head of the cadet corps .

Life

origin

His parents were Wilhelm Ludwig von Beulwitz (1681–1738) and his wife Sophie Helene von Beulwitz from the Löhne family. His father was a privy councilor and court marshal , heir to wages in Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and the governor of Rudolstadt and Blankenburg .

Military career

Beulwitz came to the court of King Friedrich II as a page in 1750. From there he was transferred to the Gensdarmes regiment on December 30, 1757 as a cornet . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Roßbach , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Hochkirch , Liegnitz and Torgau . During that time he was promoted to lieutenant on December 18, 1759 . After the war, it was not until October 25, 1775 that he became a staff captain . On November 10, 1778 he was then captain and company commander . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On February 3, 1784 he became major , on May 23, 1791 lieutenant colonel and on May 11, 1793 colonel. On January 29, 1796, he was assigned to Lieutenant General von Mosch and appointed inspector of all military educational institutions. On March 7, 1797 he became head of the cadet institutes with a salary of 2000 thalers. On May 24, 1798, he was promoted to major general with a patent dated June 10, 1798. However, he died on January 14, 1799 in Berlin and was buried in the garrison cemetery on January 18, 1799 .

He was also an artist, translating two plays by Louis-Sébastien Mercier , The Deserter (1774) and Natalie (1778). Between 1789 and 1799 von Beulwitz was State Grand Master of the Grand State Lodge of the Freemasons of Germany .

family

Beulwitz married Juliane Renate Linke on May 18, 1796 in Berlin (* June 10, 1765 - December 8, 1839), a daughter of the Elector Merchant Linke from Zittau. The couple had the following children:
