Karl Bachler (writer)

Karl Bachler (born May 28, 1905 in Chemnitz , † February 1997 in Münster ) was a German writer , journalist and editor-in-chief .

Life

Karl Bachler studied German , art and theater history , psychology , philosophy and history at the Universities of Leipzig and Breslau . He assisted as a director and worked as a journalist since 1929. In 1930 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . In his hometown of Chemnitz, he worked for a daily newspaper publisher as a feature section manager , service manager and editor-in-chief. After the Second World War , he worked as a freelance journalist and then successively headed the editorial offices of a local newspaper and a press office .

From the beginning of 1953 Bachler was part of the editorial team of the Bremen daily Weser-Kurier . He initially headed the features section and in 1955 also became deputy to the then editor-in-chief Hans Hackmack , who was one of the founders of the newspaper. As a successor to Hackmack, Bachler became the sole editor-in-chief on September 1, 1956. Until his retirement on December 31, 1970, he worked as editor-in-chief of the Weser-Kurier, his successor was the former deputy editor-in-chief Wolfgang Heyen .

Bachler was a member of the board of directors of the Rudolf Alexander Schröder Foundation and a member of the West German Association of Journalists , the Carl Schurz Society and the Bremen Historical Society .

He was married to Mathilde Gabriel since May 1951.

Bachler wrote several dramas , novellas , essays and non-fiction books , including:
