Karl Egon III. Prince zu Fürstenberg (full name: Karl Egon III. Leopold Maria Wilhelm Maximilian , born March 4, 1820 in Donaueschingen , † March 15, 1892 in Paris ) was a Baden , later Prussian officer , most recently a general of the cavalry and head from 1854 to 1892 the Swabian line of the Fürstenberg family . Because of his extensive estates, he was a member of the Prussian mansion , the first chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly and the first chamber of the Württemberg estates . 1864-1892 he was President of the Association of German Classes .

Life

Karl Egon was the son of Prince Karl Egon II zu Fürstenberg , the first gentleman in the Grand Duchy of Baden, and his wife Amalie, born Princess of Baden (1795–1869). From 1838 to 1841 he studied law, economics, mathematics and natural sciences at the University of Heidelberg and in Berlin in 1842 . He also made extensive trips through northern Germany and Scandinavia. Before the unrest of the Baden Revolution of 1848/49, the family fled to Schaffhausen and only returned after Baden was occupied by Prussian troops. After the death of his father he inherited the Swabian possessions of the Fürstenbergers and devoted himself to the rehabilitation of the princely enterprises.

He expanded the princely library and initiated the collection of documents from the history of the Fürstenberg areas in the "Fürstenberg document book".

Karl Egon was since October 25, 1839 Rittmeister in the Badischer Dragoon Regiment "Grand Duke". In the further course of his military career he became lieutenant general on September 23, 1862 and as such he then acted as adjutant general to Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden from September 9, 1869 . In this position Karl Egon joined the Prussian Army on November 21, 1871 . On September 2, 1873 he was awarded the character of General of the Cavalry and celebrated his 50th anniversary in service on October 25, 1889.

Marriage and offspring

Karl Egon married Princess Elisabeth Henriette Reuss older line on November 4, 1844 (* March 23, 1824 in Greiz; † May 7, 1861 in Berlin; buried June 10, 1861 in the crypt church Maria-Hof of the princes of Fürstenberg, Neudingen). She gave birth to three children, one of whom died a few hours after birth. His surviving siblings were Amalie (* May 25, 1848, † March 8, 1918) and Karl Egon IV (1852-1896).
