His father was a retired colonel , most recently in the 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiment and a knight of the order Pour le Mérite . The later Prussian major general Robert von Eberstein was his brother.

Military career

Eberstein came to Berlin as a cadet on August 1, 1811 and was employed from there on May 31, 1813 as a portepeef ensign in the 2nd Reserve Battalion of the 4th Infantry Regiment (No. 5) of the Prussian Army . But already on September 19, 1813 he came as a second lieutenant in the 5th Reserve Infantry Regiment (No. 17). During the Wars of Liberation Eberstein fought in the sieges of Stettin and Wittenberg. He was wounded in the assault on Arnhem and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He was also wounded in the battle near Wilmersdorf, and later he fought again with Coswig.

After the war, Eberstein was promoted to prime lieutenant on January 18, 1825 . On October 25, 1831 he became a captain and company commander . On March 30, 1840, he was transferred to the 15th Infantry Regiment with a patent from April 13, 1832 . On March 28, 1844, he became major and commander of the 1st Battalion in the 25th Landwehr Regiment. In the same capacity, he was transferred to the 28th Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1844 . There Eberstein was still lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1853 , before he was transferred to Jülich as commandant on May 23, 1854 . Shortly afterwards he was placed à la suite of the 28th Infantry Regiment and on July 13, 1854 Eberstein was promoted to colonel. Under awarding of the character as a major general Eberstein was on July 8, 1858, the statutory pension for disposition made.

In his assessment from 1847 it said: “Morally and spiritually educated, correctly recognizing and completely fulfilling his position as an experienced soldier, he acts with uncomfortable zeal on the officers and soldiers subordinate to him. The battalion he commands is therefore also in laudable condition, both in terms of discipline and internal order and in terms of practical training. It is suitable for transportation on the tour. "
