Karl von Schlitz (politician)
Count Karl Heinrich Wilhelm Hermann Ferdinand von Schlitz, called von Görtz , also Carl von Schlitz (born February 15, 1822 in Schlitz , † December 7, 1885 ibid) was a German politician and civil registrar in the Grand Duchy of Hesse .
Life
Karl Graf von Schlitz took over in 1839 - initially under guardianship - the caste domination, studied in Bonn from 1840 Law and graduated with doctorate jur. from. In addition, he acquired language skills which enabled him to translate Kalidasa's Sakuntala at the side of Otto von Böhtlingk . 1844-1847 he made a trip around the world, which he processed in a three-volume travel description. 1850–1861 and 1864–1866 he was ambassador to the Prussian court.
As a Hessian registrar, Görtz was hereditary member of the First Chamber of the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1847 to 1849 . In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament . As a result of the March Revolution , the mandates of the class lords in parliament were dropped, but were restored again with the victory of the reaction . From 1856 to 1885 he was again a member of the first chamber. There he was Vice President from 1866 to 1875 and President from 1875 to 1885.
His son Emil followed in his father's footsteps as President of the State Parliament between 1900 and 1914.
