Karl Hesselbacher

Karl Eduard Ludwig Hesselbacher (born May 29, 1871 in Mückenloch , † January 11, 1943 in Baden-Baden ) was a German Protestant clergyman and writer .

Life

Karl Hesselbacher came from a pastor's family . He grew up in Mückenloch, Sinsheim and Neckarau and attended high school in Mannheim and Lahr . From 1890 to 1894 he completed a study of Protestant theology at the universities in Halle an der Saale , Leipzig and Heidelberg , he with the second theological state exam completed. From 1894 to 1895 he did his military service as a one-year volunteer in Karlsruhe . Then he was vicar in Heidelsheim , Schwetzingen and Karlsruhe.

In 1898 Karl Hesselbacher took over a pastorate in Neckarzimmern . In 1905 he moved to Karlsruhe. From 1914 he was a member of the General Synod . During the First World War , Hesselbacher was a hospital chaplain . From 1919 until his retirement in 1938 he worked as a pastor in Baden-Baden ; from 1930 he was a member of the church council and from 1933 dean of the Baden-Baden church district .

In addition to sermon texts , pastoral theological treatises and biographies, Karl Hesselbacher published numerous popular stories , which are often based on experiences from his pastoral work or deal with topics from the history of German Protestantism .

Karl Hesselbacher was awarded the Baden War Merit Cross in 1916 . 1917, he was from the University of Heidelberg , the honorary doctorate of theology awarded. In Baden-Baden the "Karl-Hesselbacher-Straße" is named after him.
