Charles I (Baden)
Charles I of Baden (* 1427 ; † February 24, 1475 in Pforzheim ) was Margrave of Baden .
Life
He was the first son from the marriage of Catherine of Lorraine and the Margrave Jacob I of Baden .
Charles I came less after his diplomatic father and more after his militant grandfather. In 1462 Karl I was involved in a dispute with the Elector Friedrich I of the Palatinate , known as the Victorious, which led to the Badisch-Palatinate War . After the margrave between Emperor Friedrich III. , Pope Pius II and some princes, first tried to mediate between the divided camps in order to fill the bishopric of Mainz , but then took the side of his brother, Bishop Georg von Metz , and the result was Badisch - Palatine War.
As a result, there was devastation and looting on both sides and the establishment of the margrave at the battle of Seckenheim by Frederick I of the Palatinate. The margrave had to pay 25,000 guilders to be released, surrender his share in the county of Sponheim as a pledge and declare Pforzheim a Palatinate fief . From then on Friedrich I of the Palatinate had secured his claim as elector. The bones of Charles I found their final resting place in the collegiate church .
