Karl Josef Grysar

Karl Josef Grysar (born January 2, 1801 in Lendersdorf near Düren , † April 3, 1856 in Vienna ) was a German classical philologist .

Karl Josef Grysar attended the Jesuit grammar school in Düren and then studied classical philology and philosophy at the University of Bonn . His academic teachers included Friedrich Gottlieb Welcker , August Wilhelm Schlegel and Christian August Brandis . After the untimely death of his parents, Grysar took a position as a tutor to finance his studies. In 1824 he went to the high school in Cologne, where he found time for scientific publications in addition to the teaching profession. In 1850 he was appointed professor of classical philology at the University of Vienna and appointed co-director of the newly founded philological-historical seminar . A few years later he died unexpectedly.
