Karl Lautenschlager
Karl Lautenschlager (born May 15, 1868 in Stuttgart ; † December 6, 1952 there ) was Stadtschultheiß and Lord Mayor of Stuttgart from 1911 to 1933 .
Life
Lautenschlager studied political science and law in Tübingen and Leipzig and became a member of the government council of the Stuttgart city office. In Tübingen he was a member of the Tübingen student association " Akademische Gesellschaft Stuttgardia ", which was close to southern German liberalism. On May 12, 1911 - supported by conservatives and national liberals - he was elected city school of Stuttgart for the first time. He was re-elected in 1921 and 1931. From 1930 onwards he carried the title of Lord Mayor, which was previously only a royal honorary title. In 1933 he retired at the urging of the National Socialists.
In 1912 he married Emma Lautenschlager , with whom he had two daughters.
After the Second World War , he refused to run again for the office of Lord Mayor with reference to his advanced age. Instead, the young Arnulf Klett was elected to the office. In 1952 Lautenschlager died in his hometown. His grave is in the forest cemetery Stuttgart in department 1a.

Lautenschlager took particular care of the infrastructure, e.g. For example, the first sewage treatment plant , the construction of the Stuttgart main station , the Stuttgart funicular and the municipal bathing establishments fell into his time.
honors and awards
On September 21, 1945, Karl Lautenschlager was made an honorary citizen of the city of Stuttgart.
Lautenschlagerstrasse was named after him in Stuttgart. It leads from the small counter hall of the main train station in the direction of the city center and is often the assembly point and starting point for kick-off rallies during demonstrations .
