history

Bergerhausen Castle around 1860, Alexander Duncker collection

It is still preserved today as one of three former castles in Bergerhausen. The moated castle was built in the 13th century and was the ancestral seat of the Knights of Bergerhausen. Around 1320, the von Bergerhausen brothers sold part of the property to the Mariengradenstift in Cologne . The Archbishops of Cologne acquired power to defend their territory. In 1334 Archbishop Walram gave Bergerhausen Castle to the knight Hans-Ulrich von Bergerhausen for services rendered. Around 1430, the descendants provided the castle with strong fortifications . Nella († 1442), heir daughter of Wilhelm von Bergerhausen, brought the property into her marriage to Statz von dem Bongart in 1424 . The expansion to today's castle took place in the 16th century.

In 1830 the property came through marriage to Clemens August Waldbott von Bassenheim-Bornheim . At the end of the 19th century the family moved to Hungary, so that in 1894 a relative of the owner, Clemens Freiherr von Loë - Longenburg , bought the property and bequeathed it to his nephew Walter Freiherr von Loë. In 1976 the son Clemens Freiherr von Loë rented the facility to the Psychotherapeutic Institute Bergerhausen under the direction of Hans-Werner Gessmann . The institute expanded it into a therapeutic center by 1989. After the sudden death of Walter Freiherr von Loë and his son Clemens, the community of heirs sold the castle complex to Josef and Willy Stollenwerk , the former tenants of the grounds in the courtyard. They renovated the buildings in 1984.

On the last weekend before Christmas, Bergerhausen Castle offered a stylish setting for the two-day Kerpen Christmas market from 2002 to 2006. The city of Kerpen has been holding the Christmas market at Loersfeld Castle since 2007 .

Today Bergerhausen Castle is a popular place for weddings, weddings, birthdays and similar celebrations. Wedding couples can have a church wedding in the chimney room rented by the city of Kerpen and in the adjoining chapel. In addition, open-air concerts, craft markets, Christmas markets and wedding fairs took place here in a stylish atmosphere.

The system is occasionally used as a film set for movies and TV series. These include Tatort , Wilsberg , Unter uns , Alarm für Cobra 11 and the film Lap Prayers . The grounds of the castle are also available for photo series and advertising. As a result of the class reunion of the crime series SOKO Cologne (ZDF, 2011), the castle represents a school in which the headmistress was murdered. In the 25th episode of the crime series Wilsberg The Jubilee , the castle serves as a palace hotel.
