Karl Maximilian von Rade

Karl Maximilian von Rade (born September 28, 1771 in Lübben , † May 22, 1854 in Klein-Hammer near Danzig ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Christian Maximilian von Rade (* 1721; † March 12, 1796) and his wife Erdmuthe Karoline, née Löscher (* November 20, 1749). His father was a district deputy for the Lübben district and landlord on Neuhaus .

Military career

Rade visited the Electoral Saxon Cadet Corps in Dresden , was transferred to the "von Langenau" infantry regiment of the Saxon Army on March 1, 1789, cornet and on September 1, 1890 as a sergeant . There he was promoted to Sousleutnant on January 2, 1793 and in 1801 was transferred to Gruben as Prime Lieutenant within the regiment . During the Fourth Coalition War , Rade fought with the French in the siege of Danzig in 1807 and was promoted to captain on July 29, 1807 . In the Fifth Coalition War he took part in the battle near Lenz. On November 20, 1810 he was promoted to major in the 1st Light Infantry Regiment.

At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , Rade fought with the French against the Allies in the battles near Reichenbach and Leopoldshagen. In the latter battle, he acquired the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry and the Order of the Legion of Honor . He was also involved in the sieges of Wittenberg and Torgau and the battles near Bautzen , Großbeeren and Dennewitz . After the Saxons had switched to the Allied camp, Rade fought in the campaign against France in 1814 . During the siege of Antwerp he acquired the Order of St. Vladimir IV class.

On May 6, 1815, Rade retired from the Saxon service, joined the Prussian Army on July 26, 1815 and, with a patent from November 30, 1810, was aggregated as a major in the 15th Infantry Regiment . There he was assigned to the regiment on April 17, 1816 with a patent from October 6, 1815 , and as a battalion commander on July 17, 1816. On March 30, 1821 he was promoted to colonel and on May 29, 1821 he was appointed commander of the 5th Landwehr Regiment. This was followed by a position as director of the division school of the 2nd division from June 18, 1825 , before Rade received his retirement as a major general on March 27, 1830 . He died on May 22, 1854 in Klein-Hammer near Danzig and was buried on May 27, 1854 in the military cemetery in Danzig.

Rade married Johanna Heinrich Herting on July 27, 1800 in Weide (* June 24, 1776; † June 22, 1834). The couple had several children:
