Karl Rührschneck (born June 2, 1911 in Nuremberg ; † November 1, 1997 there ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Career

Rührschneck had learned the bakery trade, but did not stay true to this profession for long. At the age of 18 he bought his first motorcycle , an Ardie . Two years later, Rührschneck began an internship in the testing department of Triumph , one of around 50 motorcycle manufacturers in and around Nuremberg , an activity that matched his interest in technical things.

From 1932, Rührschneck started in motorcycle races on a Norton and soon became one of the most famous private drivers. He shared his first major success with his brother Otto, who was six years older than him . The brothers crossed the finish line side by side in Scots and were both declared winners. After test drives in competition with other drivers, he received a works contract with BMW in Munich and, among other things, came second in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring behind Italian Dorino Serafini ( Gilera ) in 1939 European championship seventh in the 500 cm³ class . Karl Rührschneck seemed to be at the beginning of a great career, but the Second World War ruined his plans for the time being.

After the war, he won the 500cc race at the Norisring in Nuremberg on an NSU in 1947 , but also drove cement railway races on a Puch . In 1950 he took second place behind Ernst Hoske (BMW) in the Feldberg race and in 1952 he won the Sachsenring, the Schleizer Dreieckrennen and the Autobahn spider in Dresden - Hellerau , always on a half-liter Norton. The race in Dresden-Hellerau ended in a "totem race" with Rudi Knees .

As a passenger in the BMW team of Sepp Müller Karl Rührschneck also had greater success. Müller / Rührschneck were German champions in 1948 and 1949 and third in the DM in 1950 in the 1200 cc sidecar class. 1952 Rührschneck started on Norton in the 500 cm³ class of the motorcycle world championship , but did not achieve any championship points.

Karl Rührschneck died on November 1st, 1997 in his hometown of Nuremberg.
