from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Straub junior (born July 1, 1971 in Ingolstadt ) is a Bavarian local politician , member of the Bavarian State Parliament and entrepreneur.

Life

Karl Straub lives in Wolnzach in the Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm district. He is married and has two sons.

He attended the Wolnzach elementary school from 1977 to 1981 . He left the Schyren-Gymnasium in Pfaffenhofen prematurely in 1987 with the completion of the secondary school leaving certificate. After completing an apprenticeship as a banker, he began a second apprenticeship as a motor mechanic in 1992 and, from 1992, as a motor vehicle economist at the Federal College for Business Management in the Automotive Industry (BFC) V. in Calw. After completing his training in 1994, he joined the long-standing company of his father, Karl Straub senior (born July 6, 1938 ) as managing partner of Autohaus Straub GmbH in Wolnzach. In the meantime, Straub did his 15-month basic military service in the Bundeswehr from 1995 to 1996. Since his father took over the company in 1997, he has also been the owner of Straub GmbH & Co. KG with three locations in Pfaffenhofen, Wolnzach and since 2001 after the takeover of the Wittmann car dealership in Mainburg.

In 2004 Karl Straub was elected chairman of the Wolnzacher Bund der Self-employed. In 2010 he handed over his position as chairman of the Wolnzacher trade association to Julia Holzvoigt. Straub is also involved in various honorary offices and local associations. But Straub also causes a sensation as an athlete, not only as a tennis player and long-distance runner, but also as a kickboxer. Straub has completed three marathons, his best time is 3:33 hours. At the Gladiator Fight Night on June 16, 2018, Straub lost in a boxing match, despite months of hard preparation, with no chance against FDP City Councilor Karl Ettinger in front of 1250 spectators in the sold-out Ingolstadt city theater by unanimous decision.

On December 20, 2018, Straub, as managing director and Opel dealer, filed for insolvency at the Ingolstadt insolvency court for Straub GmbH & Co. KG. Around 48 employees are affected. The actual insolvency proceedings began on March 1, 2019. The insolvency administrator was able to transfer the two locations in Mainburg and Pfaffenhofen to two new operators free of debt. No buyer was found for the third location in Wolnzach - the company headquarters of the car dealership.

Political career

Karl Straub began his political career when he joined the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) in 2004. In the local elections on March 2, 2008, Karl Straub was elected to the Wolnzach municipal council. In 2009 he was promoted to chairman of the CSU district association Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm. He resigned from this office in November 2011 after the district council election 2011, which was successful for the CSU and in which Martin Wolf (CSU) was elected district administrator of the Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm district. In the nomination of the CSU direct candidate for the Bavarian state parliament in the constituency of Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm , Wolnzacher Straub prevailed on July 31, 2012 against his opponent Thomas Röder from Pfaffenhofen with 75 against 45 delegate votes.

In the 2013 state elections on September 15, 2013, he won the direct mandate in the Pfaffenhofen adIlm constituency with 47.1 percent, well ahead of the second-placed SPD candidate Markus Käser with 19.9 percent. Karl Straub has been an elected member of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament since October 7, 2013 . There he sat initially as a member of the "Committee on Federal and European Affairs and Regional Relations" and the "Committee on Constitution, Law and Parliamentary Issues". Within this committee, Straub is responsible for asylum social policy. At the end of 2014, Karl Straub moved from the Europe Committee to the “Committee for Submissions and Complaints”.

In the local elections on March 16, 2014, Straub was re-elected to the Wolnzach municipal council. As a top candidate on the CSU district council list, he also moved into the Pfaffenhofen district council on May 1, 2014. On May 4, 2015, Straub again took over the chairmanship of the CSU district association Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm with 100% of the delegate votes. In the preparation meeting in Pörnbach on 28 November 2017 it was 96.2 percent of the delegate votes for the second time CSU candidate for nomination for the Bavarian state election on October 14, 2018 as a rival candidate of Josef Schäch , who also made Wolnzach for the FDP competes . Straub won his direct mandate with 35.7 percent of all first votes. This time his personal result was 4.1 percentage points well below the second vote result of the CSU in the Pfaffenhofen district with 39.8 percent of all second votes. He is currently a member of the Submissions and Complaints Committee and a member of the Constitutional, Legal, Parliamentary and Integration Committee.

Political positions

Asylum policy

Straub advocates accelerated asylum procedures and thus expressly backed the move by Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann at the winter retreat in Wildbad Kreuth in January 2015. As chairman of the SME parliamentary group, Straub advocates residence permits instead of asylum for occupations in shortages.

On the occasion of the exploratory talks in January 2018 between the Union and the SPD about a coalition , Straub continues to support the suspension of family reunification and the like. a. According to the Asylum Act § 26 and Art. 16a GG for persons entitled to subsidiary protection, especially from North African countries, because according to a study they would be offended with nine times the probability or their asylum applications would be rejected 100%.

Parties

CSU

Within the parliamentary group and party, Straub is considered a loyal CSU politician: "I don't see myself as a CSU revolutionary". In the power struggle between Markus Söder and Horst Seehofer after the 2017 federal election, Straub was one of the eight CSU district chairmen from Upper Bavaria who expressed their concern about the party in a letter to Prime Minister Horst Seehofer. He took the side of Franconian Markus Söder at an early stage, whom he praised as an excellent finance minister, and also trusted him to chair the party and expressly the office of prime minister. Straub has absolutely no ambitions for "higher consecration" on the career ladder. When Erwin Huber rated the resignation of Federal Interior Minister Seehofer as "inevitable" in the union dispute over the controversial master plan migration in 2018 , Straub pleaded expressly for Seehofer that he should retain both party chairmanship and the office of Federal Interior Minister. In his own constituency, Straub is not considered squeamish when dealing with critics. He described a district and municipal council and at the same time a CSU party member as a “sick person” who was “not to be taken seriously”, and ensured that it was expelled from its local association. In the district council, Straub also criticized the coalition partner on a personal level when he accused the third district administrator of profile addiction and speculation on the occasion of the discussion about the preservation of the local Ilm Valley clinic.

Other

Straub's stance on the AfD has so far been ambivalent. On the one hand, before the 2017 federal election , he admitted to the AfD that it would offer “convincing content” at first glance, but the people behind it were “no good”. In another case, Straub canceled his participation in a DGB panel discussion on the 2018 state elections in protest because the local DGB district association had deliberately not invited the AfD candidate. One of Straub's harshest critics is the SPD district chairman Markus Käser from Pfaffenhofen. He particularly criticized Straub's role in the reform of the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen constituency in 2012 in favor of Horst Seehofer

religion

At the annual meeting of his CSU local association on March 26, 2018, Straub underlined the criticism of CSU Interior Minister Horst Seehofer of the controversial sentence of former Federal President Christian Wulff, "Islam belongs to Germany". Straub also stated more precisely in the interview: "I have not had to take any statements back since 2013". On the occasion of a reception given by the Bavarian Environment Minister Marcel Huber, Straub assessed the cross ordinance of the Söder cabinet, which stipulates the Christian symbol in all authorities, as proof that his party is distinctive and not interchangeable.

safety

Straub voted on May 15, 2018 in line with the CSU parliamentary group for the controversial police task law . Critics at the PAG classify Straub u. a. as “irrelevant” and liar who “stir up unfounded fears”.

environment

Originally, Straub was behind the joint wind power planning of the 19 rural districts in 2012 in the form of a positive planning, unique in Bavaria, with a distance of 950 or 650 meters to the residential development. When CSU Prime Minister Horst Seehofer called for the distance regulations to be tightened to 2000 meters in January 2014, Straub initially criticized them clearly, but then swung to the party line and has since supported the 10H rule . On the occasion of a district council debate on May 15, 2018 on the abandonment of glyphosate in district areas, Straub admitted the harmfulness of neonicotinoids for bees in general, but denied the danger for the district of Pfaffenhofen due to the early spraying of the hop growers every year .

traffic

As a loyal CSU politician, Straub is one of the supporters of the construction of the third runway at Munich's Franz Josef Strauss Airport . In the state parliament on February 3, 2015, he voted against the acceptance of a mass petition and thus against the argumentation for a further weighing process, which 82,000 citizens had called for with a stop of the runway planning.

media

Straub's public relations focus is on social media. His Facebook profile has over 6000 followers. Profiles of critics were repeatedly blocked. As the CSU district association chairman and constituency member, Straub invited the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Ilse Aigner to an economic dialogue in Rohrbach on March 27, 2017 , as well as all local media representatives with one exception. Straub justified the "deliberate" non-invitation with the fact that he had previously disagreed with the media's coverage of the CSU district association's New Year's reception and now decides on a case-by-case basis which media representatives to invite or not. Straub contradicted allegations of wanting to curtail the freedom of the press.
