Karl Wilhelm von Sanitz (born January 11, 1747 in Braunsfelde . Friedeberg district , † August 4, 1821 in Glogau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of infantry regiment No. 50 and knight of the Pour le Mérite .

Life

Karl Wilhelm was a member of Neumark noble family of Sanitz . He was a son of Ernst Ludwig von Sanitz (* 1711, died 1758 in Bohemia), Saxon captain and company commander in the former infantry regiment "Manstein" and his wife Luise Gottliebe, née von Staudach.

Military career

Sanitz was first on May 12, 1762 Corporal in the infantry regiment "Tauentzien" . He thus experienced the end of the Seven Years' War and on May 17, 1763 was still an ensign . On November 25, 1765 he became second lieutenant and then took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On August 2, 1780, he became a staff captain and on September 4, 1780, a captain and company commander. On June 26, 1785 he was promoted to major in Infantry Regiment No. 32 ( patent dated January 28, 1765) and also to commander of the "Dobschütz" grenadier battalion. The battalion consisted of two companies each from regiments No. 32 and No. 28 . On June 8, 1792 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on December 12, 1792 he was commander of the grenadier battalion in Regiment No. 32. During the First Coalition War , he fought at the Valmy cannonade , the battle of Kaiserslautern and the battle near Alsheim, Eschweiler , Zweibrücken, Deidesheim, St. Martin and the siege of Verdun and Königstein. For his courage in the battle near Alsheim he received the Pour le Mérite on May 30, 1793. On January 23, 1794 he became a colonel and on February 26, 1799 commander of Infantry Regiment No. 32, but on October 2, 1799 he was appointed Chief of Infantry Regiment No. 50. On May 20, 1800, he was appointed major general (patent from May 25, 1800).

At the beginning of the Fourth Coalition War he was wounded on October 14, 1806 in the Battle of Jena and captured in the battle near Heiligenholz after falling on his horse. It was not until March 6, 1809 that he could report to the king again. He put him on half his salary . On his 50th anniversary on May 11, 1812, he received 200 thalers from the king.

In March 1813, Sanitz became a member of the commission that examined General Yorck von Wartenburg's Tauroggen Convention . She came to the conclusion that Yorck was doing the right thing and had no choice but to sign. At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , on May 6, 1813, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Division of the Silesian Landwehr . On August 12, 1815, he was retired as lieutenant general. He died in Glogau on August 4, 1821 .

He married Wilhelmine Sophie Elisabeth von Grolman on November 4, 1783 in Breslau (* July 8, 1762, † November 16, 1842). The couple had the following children:
