Friedrich Philipp Ludwig Karl von Avemann (born April 12, 1814 in Wiesbaden , † March 10, 1891 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian lieutenant general who played a key role in the introduction of the needle gun in the Prussian army .

Karl was the son of the Nassau lieutenant colonel of the same name as well as Herr auf Wartha und Spierau Karl von Avemann (1775-1832) and his wife Charlotte Luise, née von Jossa (1792-1872).

Military career

Avemann attended high school in Wetzlar and joined the 17th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on May 17, 1831 . There he was promoted to portepeef ensign on October 26, 1831 and to redundant secondary lieutenant on October 25, 1832 , and was added to the budget on October 14, 1833. From April 27, 1834 to October 9, 1835 he was assigned to the 7th Artillery Brigade and from September 30, 1841 to February 2, 1842 to the Saarn rifle factory . This was followed by commands to the rifle revision commission and the rifle factories in Saarn and Sömmerda . After Avemann rose to prime lieutenant in early October 1845 , he became a regular member of the rifle revision commission in Sömmerda on October 17, 1846. He returned to the 17th Infantry Regiment on September 12, 1850 and was at the same time commanded as a company commander to the 1st Battalion in the 17th Landwehr Regiment. Under position à la suite of the 19th Infantry Regiment , he was appointed a member of the rifle revision commission in Potsdam on October 9, 1851 . On May 31, 1855, Avemann was first assigned to the artillery department of the War Ministry and transferred there on October 11, 1855. In this position he was appointed major on June 16, 1856 and on August 13, 1859 under position à la suite of the ministry as chairman of the rifle testing commission. From there he came to Spandau on January 1, 1861 as director of the military shooting school, where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 18, 1861. On February 10, 1863 Avemann was appointed commander of the 3rd Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 71 and on March 17, 1863 was promoted to colonel and on the occasion of the festival in January 1864 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. During the German War Avemann led his regiment in 1866 in the battles near Liebenau , Podol , Münchengrätz , Göding , Holitz , Blumenau , Pressburg and Königgrätz . For his work he received the order Pour le Mérite and was appointed commander of the 21st Infantry Brigade in Wroclaw on October 30, 1866 under position à la suite . With a patent dated October 30, 1866, he was also promoted to major general on December 31, 1866 . For health reasons, he retired and was on June 9, 1868 awarded the Order of the Crown II. For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Avemann was reused on July 18, 1870 as commander of the 2nd Landwehr Brigade. He took part in the siege of Strasbourg and received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. On January 20, 1871, he was released from his position and transferred to Magdeburg on May 16, 1871 as commander of the 14th Infantry Brigade's deputy for the duration of the mobile relationship . On June 20, 1871, he was returned to the inactive relationship with the character of Lieutenant General. He died on March 10, 1891 in Erfurt.

Avemann married Friedrike Henriette Krannichfeldt (1830–1848) on September 3, 1847 in Wandsbek. After her untimely death, he married her sister Friederike Natalie Krannichfeldt (1828–1902) on October 10, 1849.
