Xacobeo Galicia

2008.

Xacobeo Galicia was a Spanish cycling team .

Xacobeo Galicia was founded in 2007 as a Professional Continental Team under the name Karpin Galicia and mainly participated in races on the UCI Europe Tour . The manager was Álvaro Pino , who was assisted by Jesús Villar and José Angel Vidal as sporting directors. The team was equipped with Orbea bikes .

The team came under fire because with Isidro Nozal , Marcos Serrano and Eladio Jiménez three drivers of this team are involved in the doping scandal Fuentes .

The first team name consisted of the Spanish region of Galicia , which supported the team, and the former Russian national soccer player Valeri Karpin , who had been president and co-owner before he took over the office of general director of FC Spartak Moscow . Since August 2008 the part of the name Karpin has been replaced by Xacobeo (German: Jakob) and the Sociedad Anónima de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo became a partner of the team. The Sociedad Anónima de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo is a society affiliated with the Galician regional government, which was founded to promote the year of Jacob in 1993. Another year of Jacob took place in 2010.

At the end of September 2010 the main sponsor announced that he would withdraw from professional cycling at the end of the year, whereupon the team disbanded. Attempts to rescue the team, which could not pay the driver's salaries for several months, failed.
