Katja Wächter (born January 28, 1982 in Leipzig ) is a German foil fencer and multiple German champion .

Life

Katja Wächter started fencing in 1990. Until 1997 she was trained by Horst Lessig, then by Lajos Somodi and now by Ingo Weißenborn . The woman from Würzburg studies German at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and starts for the fencing club Tauberbischofsheim .

successes

In 2005 , 2007 and 2009 she was German individual champion, 2006 , 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 , 2012 and 2014 team champion.

Internationally, Wächter's first major success was fifth at the 2002 Junior World Championship in Antalya . The same placement she achieved in 2006 and 2007 with the German team at the European Championships in Izmir and Gent . In the individual, she finished 18th. For the first time she took part in a world championship in 2005 in Leipzig and reached 26th in the individual and ninth with the team. The following year in Turin Wächter was 21st in the individual and 13th with the team. In 2007 she was 36th in St. Petersburg .

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , she reached the quarter-finals as the best German, where she was eliminated against the Italian Giovanna Trillini . In 2009 she reached the final at the European Fencing Championships in Plovdiv , but lost to Valentina Vezzali . In 2009 she won bronze with the team at the World Championships in Antalya.

In 2010 she won silver with the team at the European Championships in Leipzig and bronze at the 2011 European Championships in Sheffield .
