action

Because their 16-year-old daughter Fiona is a real loner and has no real girlfriend, her parents Charlotte and Erik Neufund organize a school exchange on the advice of the class teacher. As passionate Beatles fans, the parents choose a child named "Sandy McCartney" from the list of exchange students and expect a hip British girl who will bring Fiona out of her lethargy.

However, the host child turns out to be a 13-year-old boy of Indian descent named Sacchidananda, who calls himself "Sandy" and gives his host family a few surprises. So he can confidently quote from Faust and annoys the Newfound family with guru wisdom and ideas for a more harmonious togetherness.

However, the Neufund family has neither time nor inclination for such a harmonious coexistence: Erik Neufund is wrestling with the tax office, his wife falls in love with a lawyer and Fiona's older sister Annika does not want to have anything to do with her family anyway. Fiona, however, gradually befriends the idiosyncratic Sandy, and her family, which was already in danger of breaking up, find their way back together with his help.
