Kenneth Douglas Taylor

Kenneth Douglas Taylor (born October 5, 1934 in Calgary , Alberta , † October 15, 2015 in New York City ) was a Canadian diplomat and ambassador .

Life

Kenneth Douglas Taylor received a Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University, Toronto and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. On July 28, 1977 he was appointed Ambassador to Kuwait City , Muscat , Doha , Abu Dhabi , Manama and Tehran , where he was on Was accredited October 8, 1977.

During the hostage-taking of Tehran , he issued Canadian passports to six US diplomats. On January 28, 1980, the passports were used to travel with Swissair to Zurich , which formed the template for Canadian Caper . He left Tehran without his successor being accredited, and the New Zealand embassy subsequently served as a protective power for Canadian interests. On July 10, 1980, he was appointed commissioner in Hamilton , Bermuda , where he presented himself on May 29, 1981. In 1980 he and others involved in the embassy asylum were accepted into the Order of Canada and awarded the Golden Medal of Honor of Congress . From 1981 to 1984 he had exequatur as consul general in New York City and was subsequently retired . He returned to the University of Toronto, served as Chancellor of the Victoria University at the University of Toronto . From 1984 to 1989 he was on the management board of Nabisco .

In the 2012 film Argo by Ben Affleck , he is played by Victor Garber .
