Kerpen (Polish: Kierpień ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Kerpen is located in the municipality of Oberglogau ( Głogówek ) in the powiat Prudnicki (Neustadt OS district) in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Kerpen is six kilometers north of the municipality of Oberglogau , 22 kilometers east of the district town Prudnik (Neustadt OS) and 31 kilometers south of the voivodeship capital Opole (Opole).
An arm of the Hotzenplotz flows through the village .

history
The place was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. The place name should be derived from the Latin word "Carpio", which means carp pond. In 1335 a church was first mentioned in the village as "ecclesia de Kepowa". In 1831 the Adelenhof Vorwerk was built. In 1865 the place had 17 farmers, 25 gardeners and 14 cottagers. At that time Kerpen had a Catholic school with 107 students.
In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 266 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 165 for Poland. Kerpen remained with the German Empire . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neustadt OS
In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Kierpień and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship and since 1999 it has belonged to the powiat Prudnicki . On April 22, 2009 , German was introduced as the second official language in the municipality of Oberglogau , which Kerpen belongs to. On December 1, 2009, the place was also given the official German place name Kerpen .
