Kersbach is part of the Middle Franconian municipality of Neunkirchen am Sand .

The parish village is located in the valley of the Kersbach, on the south side of the Rothenberg between Speikern , Rollhofen , Siegersdorf , Rabenshof , Enzenreuth , Weißenbach and the Glatzenstein in the district of Nürnberger Land .

The name of the place can be traced back to the location on the river and means something like "village on the brook bend" . Unlike Kersbach bei Forchheim , the name is not derived from the cherries (" Kyrsebach ").

The Franconian Marienweg runs through Kersbach .

history

The place was first mentioned in the will of Konrad II. Schenk von Reicheneck on October 13, 1344. The Kersbachtal belonged to the Eichstätt monastery property, which extended in a scattered location around Hersbruck to far over the Hohenstein and the Rothenberg.

Located in the shadow of the Rothenberg , the fate of the village was closely linked to that of the fortress for a long time. Emperor Karl IV created the castle hat on the Rothenberg for national defense and financed this facility with the services of farmers in Kersbach and Weißenbach. The Wittelsbachers thus retained a "mainstay" in the conflicting claims to power of the city of Nuremberg, the Ganerbe on the Rothenberg and the Margraves. Thus, after the castle hat was removed, the Kersbach farmers were treated by the Wittelsbachers like curb-Bavarian Hofmarkshintersassen, who remained in princely favor regardless of the changing religious confession of the Wittelsbach count palatine. The Reformation therefore hardly affected Kersbach.

During the Thirty Years' War the village was completely destroyed, burned down and rebuilt in 1635.

In 1840 the parish of Kersbach was established and the place got a school with a resident teacher, which was dissolved in 1969 as part of the school reform. The formerly independent community of Kersbach was finally incorporated into the municipal district reform on January 1, 1972 together with its district Weißenbach to Neunkirchen am Sand, the other villages of the original parish of Kersbach came to the market Schnaittach .

Parish Finding the Cross and Holy Cross Church

A church in Kersbach can only be documented in 1363, although a chapel must have existed before this time, which was already dedicated to Saint Helena . The original church of the village was rebuilt by the residents after pillage and destruction in 1449 and 1635. The (current) baroque Holy Cross Church was built between 1740 and 1742, the high altar was added in 1744.

The large altar painting from 1742 shows the discovery of the cross of Saint Helena. The altar is flanked by figurative representations of Saint Margaret and Saint Catherine . On the northern corner pillar of the choir arch is the former pilgrimage and grace image of Our Lady of Rothenberg with a star-adorned head. The Rocco-style pulpit is decorated with allegories of Faith, Love and Hope .

Worth mentioning is the precious cross reliquary set in 1750, which can be seen in coat of arms-shaped decoration above the altar arch and is used annually for the weather blessing. The relic most likely goes back to the Bergen monastery .

Since 1841, the church treasury has also contained other objects and sacred items from the parish of Rothenberg Fortress , such as the Miraculous Madonna , the lecture cross, various chalices, the large monstrance and the parament .

The patronage of the Holy Cross Church was until the reform of the liturgical calendar on May 3 as so-called " dumplings fair celebrated". The day of the exaltation of the cross is September 14th and the day of church consecration is Jacobi Day, i.e. July 25th.
