Klaus Bahlsen
Klaus Bahlsen (born April 23, 1908 in Hanover ; † December 15, 1991 ibid) was a German businessman, manufacturer and son of the company's founder, Hermann Bahlsen . He made numerous large donations to the city of Hanover and the municipality of Uffing am Staffelsee in Upper Bavaria . Together with his wife, Rut Bahlsen , he set up the Rut and Klaus Bahlsen Foundation , one of the largest private foundations in Germany.
Life
As the youngest son of Hermann Bahlsen, Klaus completed a bank apprenticeship in Hamburg . Building on this, he studied economics at the universities of Munich and Kiel .
In 1930 Klaus Bahlsen joined the family business in order to undertake study trips through Europe and the USA . He then became a member of the management team in the areas of finance, production and recipes. His brothers Hans Bahlsen and Werner Bahlsen also worked for the company. At the beginning of the Nazi regime , Bahlsen was a sponsoring member of the SS , which he supported financially until 1935. In 1942 he joined the NSDAP .
In addition to his operational and professional activities, Klaus Bahlsen pursued a variety of other interests. Since the marriage with his wife Rut Bahlsen (1901–1988), artist name: Björkman, remained childless, the couple founded the Rut-und-Klaus-Bahlsen-Stiftung in 1972, which supports projects from nature conservation, medicine and urban development in addition to social and cultural areas .
In 1983 Uffing on the Staffelsee made Klaus Bahlsen an honorary citizen of the community.
Klaus Bahlsen died in Hanover in 1991 and was buried in his second home, the community of Uffing am Staffelsee in Upper Bavaria .
Rut and Klaus Bahlsen Foundation
In 1972 the couple set up the Rut and Klaus Bahlsen Foundation in Hanover (Berlin Allee 14 branch). The non-profit, nationwide active foundation is one of the largest private ones in Germany (assets around 100 million euros) and has an annual funding volume of around 1.0 - 2.0 million euros. Jürgen Seja (2018) is the chairman of the board.

The couple gave the city of Hanover:
- 1990 a pedestrian bridge over the Messeschnellweg
- 1996 the Bahlsen fountain ( Klaus Bahlsen fountain ) designed by Ludger Gerdes on Trammplatz
To the community of Uffing
- Klaus Bahlsen bequeathed millions to his second hometown.
Further naming
- In 2004 the holistic production of organic food began in the WABE center - Klaus-Bahlsen-Haus at the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück
- In 2005 the Rut-und-Klaus-Bahlsen-Bridge over the Messeschnellweg was named after the couple,
- 2005 also the Rut-und-Klaus-Bahlsen-Weg leading from Kleestrasse to the bridge .
- In 2007 the observation tower Klaus-Bahlsen-Turm was inaugurated in the nature reserve Obere Seegeniederung near Nienwalde .
- In April 2008 the city of Hanover opened the Klaus-Bahlsen-Haus , a new type of nursing home in Hanover-Kleefeld , on the 100th birthday of Klaus .
- In 2011, the Rut-Bahlsen-Zentrum was set up as an integrative day-care center in Hanover's Heideviertel .
