Klaus Berg (born November 7, 1937 in Mainz ) is a German lawyer and media manager. From May 1993 to the end of 2002 he was director of the Hessischer Rundfunk and was an honorary professor for media law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

After graduating from high school , which he took in Hanau in 1957, Berg studied law in Frankfurt am Main . As a university assistant, he specialized in press and broadcasting law. In 1964 Berg began his career as a consultant in the legal department of the Hessischer Rundfunk. In 1966 he obtained his doctorate in law with a dissertation on press law and federal constitutional structure. From 1980 onwards, Berg worked as a legal advisor at Norddeutscher Rundfunk . In 1993 he was appointed director of the Hessischer Rundfunk. In this capacity he headed the media and advanced training commissions for ARD.

Together with Hugo Müller-Vogg , the former editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Berg was awarded the Hessian Order of Merit in 2005 for services to journalism in Germany and Hesse .

From 1983 until 2003, Berg was honorary professor for media law at the University of Frankfurt am Main, after having previously been a lecturer there from 1977. At the Faculty of Law at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, he was involved in the establishment and development of the Institute for Domestic and Foreign Media Law .

Berg was also the first managing director of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fernsehforschung (AGF).

Klaus Berg is married and has three children.
