Klaus Emmerich (director)

Klaus Emmerich (born August 10, 1943 in Freital , Saxony ) is a German television and theater director as well as screenwriter and actor.

Life

Emmerich grew up in Königswinter and Karlsruhe and now lives in Berlin . He studied German and English at the Free University of Berlin from 1964 to 1967 and moved to the University of Television and Film Munich in 1967 (television drama department). His thesis, Film for Cheyenne - The Revolution takes place there, “shows the hopeless path of an escaped welfare child who tries in vain to find shelter among socially marginalized groups. A fiction with documentary means based on a case that actually occurred in Munich ”.

His breakthrough came with his seventh film, The First Polka (1979) with Maria Schell and Claus Theo Gärtner . Films such as Trokadero (1981) with Franz Xaver Kroetz and Pizza Colonia with Mario Adorf are made alongside television films ( Morlock with Götz George ) and television series such as Rote Erde . Emmerich stages several crime scene episodes.
