history

Klein Elbe was first mentioned in a document in 1245. As in Groß Elbe, several landlords had properties in the village, including the Wöltingerode monastery , which was given land and a mill by Count Heinrich von Wohldenberg in 1251 .
At the beginning of the 16th century, Klein Elbe, like large parts of the surrounding area, was part of the Wohldenberg office, which in turn was in the prince-bishopric of Hildesheim . In 1523, however, it was annexed by the Duchy of Braunschweig , to which the area around Klein Elbe belonged for the next 120 years. Only in 1643 did the village come back to Hildesheim.
Like Groß Elbe, Klein Elbe was also negatively affected by the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648).
In 1722 a major fire caused numerous injuries and one death. At least two courtyards burned down.
In 1877 the volunteer fire brigade was founded. The fire station was expanded and expanded in 1998.
The school in Klein Elbe was closed on April 12, 1956. Since then, the Klein Elber elementary school students have attended the school in Groß Elbe.
church
A parish has existed in Klein Elbe since at least 1371. This year, for the first time, a people priest can be identified.
In the first half of the 16th century, the Reformation also reached the parishes in Elbe. Since 1542 only one pastor has been responsible for the parishes in Groß and Klein Elbe. The two villages now form a parish association with Gustedt.
The St. Nicholas Church consists of the older tower and the nave, which was renewed in 1768, with the narrower choir , which has two narrow, painted arched windows.
Two bells were cast in 1857, which were drawn in after the First World War and had to be replaced. The same thing happened after the Second World War, so today's bells date from 1947. In 2000 a crib was purchased and in 2002 a new Easter candlestick.
