The Kleine Düssel is a 4.8 km long stream and left tributary of the Düssel in the west of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Wuppertal and in the east of the small town of Haan .

Location and topography

The Kleine Düssel rises at 228 meters above sea level. NN east of the Bolthausen estate in Wuppertal and northwest of the federal highway 46 on an orchard meadow . The spring itself is completely enclosed and fenced off over a large area, as the residents of the nearby former manor used to cover part of their water needs from the spring. The spring is classified as a natural monument.

The pond at Gut Bolthausen

The brook flows in a roughly one meter wide trench-like profile in a westerly direction and feeds a 90 m long dammed pond that belongs to the area of the estate. The area is shaded by trees near the shore. After piping, the Kleine Düssel flows past a paddock in an approximately 1.2 m wide trench-like profile. Here the course is interrupted by two pipelines that serve to cross the cattle. At the Wibbeltrath district , the brook is again piped for around 50 meters under a path and a garden area. The trench-like course is then continued until it meets the embankment of the former Solingen – Wuppertal-Vohwinkel "Korkenzieherbahn" railway and merges into the municipality of Haan .

After about 1100 meters after the source, the Kleine Düssel meets another pond and then passes under the Elberfelder Straße ( Bundesstraße 224 ). If the brook flowed in a southwesterly direction on the upper reaches, it now turns more in a northwesterly direction. Around 2000 meters after the source, the Kleine Düssel crosses under the four-lane Düsseldorf – Elberfeld railway line in the Haan district of Obgruiten and now flows completely north. At the Birschels court , the stream turns again in a north-westerly direction after receiving an inflow from the right through the Obgruitener Bach , and around 2800 after the source it receives further inflow through the Krudtscheider Bach from the right and around 80 meters further from the left through the Champagne -Graben and reached the Hofschaft Zur Mühlen .

At the Voisholz homestead , the Kleine Düssel receives its inflow from the right through the Mühlenfelder Bach and a few meters further through the Heidersprung-Graben, which also comes from the right.

In the center of the Haan district of Gruiten , the Kleine Düssel flows into the Düssel at 123 meters above sea level. NN.
