etymology

The origin of the name comes from 'birsen', 'birschen', 'Birssel' or 'Byrzel'. 'Birsen' means a process in which game is brought up with sniffer dogs. This was abundant here on the edge of the Osterholz forest area .

history

The court is mentioned for the first time in 1430 in an interest list by Corvey , but it cannot be ruled out that it is even older. Other variants of the name were: 'Birsels'.

Remains of a defensive tower ( peasant tower ) are said to have been preserved in the basement of the farm building.

On the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824, the place is recorded under the name variant 'Burschels', on the Prussian first survey from 1843 with the name 'Birschels'.

At the end of the 19th century, Birchels belonged to the independent municipality of Obgruiten .
