The village of Polnische Mütze belongs to the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Haan in the Mettmann district and belongs to the Gruiten district .

Location and description

The location, which goes back to the name of a farm, is in the east of the city of Haan near the city limits of Wuppertal ( Vohwinkel district ) and Solingen ( Gräfrath district ). The location of the farm is close to the intersection of Landesstraße 357, which in this section bears the name Gräfrather Straße in a westerly direction to Gräfrath and the name Gruitener Straße in a westerly direction to Gruiten , as well as the Bundesstraße 228 , which is called Elberfelder Straße in this section . The B 228 leads south-west to the center of Haans and north-east to Vohwinkel. Neighboring the local area are Gütchen , Gathen , Oberhaan , Wibbeltrath (to Wuppertal), Fürkeltrath (to Solingen), Bollenheide , Irdelen , Holthausen , Stropmütze and Brotzhecke .

In the local situation the tram line Vohwinkel - Düsseldorf-Benrath (line V) ran; Traces of the route used by interurban trams from 1899 to 1961 can still be found in the area.

At the moment the crossing “Polish cap” is being expanded. This became necessary due to the increased traffic in recent years and the development of an industrial area.

History and etymology

In the early modern period, the Polish hat was part of the Oberste Honschaft Haan in the Bergisch Amt of Solingen . There are different speculations about the origin of the name, a connection with the local locations Stropmütze and Klappmütze is obvious.

The court name is mentioned for the first time in 1731 in the list of homage as "Johan Siepenbeck, Polnische Mutz". In a list of inhabitants from 1830, as well as in another document from 1856, the Polish cap is mentioned.

In the municipality register from 1895, Polish Hat is listed as a Haaner place in the Mettmann district.
