history

The kneading iron, first mentioned in a document in 1537 as Auf dem Knetyser , was part of the Mittelhonschaft Haan in the Bergisches Amt Solingen in the early modern period . The estate of the Hilden Vicarie was subject to tax by 1618 at the latest . In 1581 a Schleipkothen was mentioned in the Knetiser Banden , which was located on the Itter.

With 48 Cologne acres (approx. 15 ha ) including seven acres of forest, Kneteisen 1731 was one of the larger Haaner farms. In 1809 eleven people lived on the farm, in 1830 thirteen. In 1876, a leopard escaped from a traveling menagerie at the Elberfeld fair and was shot by the Haan citizens in a barn on the estate. Since then the farm has been nicknamed the Leopard Court . Until 2006 a weather vane in the form of a big cat was blowing on the barn.

On November 21, 1944, Canadian flight lieutenant Albert Edward Steeves landed seriously injured in his parachute in the immediate vicinity of Gut Kneteisen. Steeves was the pilot of the English bomber Handley Page Halifax with the serial number NP810 and identification EQ-H, which was previously shot by a German night fighter and shortly afterwards hit in Hochdahl - Trills . That same evening Steeves was taken to Haaner Sankt-Josefs-Krankenhaus, from where he was taken prisoner of war two weeks later. He survived the war and died in Canada in 1986.

In the municipal directory of 1895, Kneteisen is listed as a Haaner place in the Mettmann district.
