Amphoe Pak Kret ( Thai : อำเภอ ปากเกร็ด , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː pàːk krèt ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of the Nonthaburi Province . The Nonthaburi Province is located north of Bangkok in the central region of Thailand .

geography

Amphoe Pak Kret is located in the northeast of the Nonthaburi province.

The neighboring Amphoe are clockwise from the north: Lat Lum Kaeo and Mueang Pathum Thani of Pathum Thani Province , the districts of Bangkok Don Mueang and Lak Si, and Mueang Nonthaburi and Bang Bua Thong of Nonthaburi Province .

Amphoe Pak Kret is traversed by the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ), the most important river in central Thailand. This forms a larger loop, the abbreviation of which a puncture was made in the 18th century , the Mae Nam Lat Kret ( แม่น้ำ ลัด เกร็ด ). This is how the island of Ko Kret (see below) was created.

The Chao Phraya or Lat Kret divides the district into a very densely populated eastern part, which is completely occupied by the town of the same name (Thesaban Nakhon) Pak Kret (more than three quarters of the district's residents live here), and a rather rural or suburban western part.

Slate Chedi (Wat Paramai Yikawat), landmark of Ko Kret

Ko Kret

The island of Ko Kret , an island of almost four square kilometers in the middle of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya. This island is formed in the north, west and south by the original course of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya, the east bank forms a channel ( Khlong ), the Khlong Lat Kret ( คลอง ลัด เกร็ด ). This is said to have been dug in 1721, but it looks as if this canal is already shown on a very precise Dutch nautical map from 1650. Foreign seafarers who sailed as far as Ayutthaya with their sailing ships called the canal the “little mosquito pierce”, as there was always a large number of mosquitos gathered here. Today the island is almost exclusively inhabited by the people of the Mon ethnic group , who are famous throughout Thailand for their pottery . At the northeast end of the island is the landmark of the crooked chedi of Wat Paramai Yikawat . The island is closed to car traffic.

Mueang Thong Thani

Mueang Thong Thani is a satellite city with numerous residential high-rise buildings, which was planned in 1989 by the Thai company Bangkok Land . In 1998 the company built the Mueang Thong Thani Stadium for the 13th Asian Games , which took place in December 1998 in Bangkok and the surrounding area. The stadium was later renamed “IMPACT Arena” and is part of the “Impact” event, conference and exhibition area. The concert and sports hall with 12,000 seats is the first address in the Bangkok area for international concerts. The complex also includes exhibition halls and a conference center.

Also in this area is the SCG Stadium, the home stadium of the first division soccer club Muangthong United .
