from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The concentration GmbH was one of the SPD to support established and operated company with the purpose of social democracy related media companies and form a counterweight to the conservative media groups. Concentration GmbH also participated in newspaper publishers and printing companies. The corporation operated as a GmbH , but was internally structured and organized as a cooperative .

founding

The social democratic concentration GmbH saw itself as an "interest group of commercial and publishing companies". It was founded on October 29, 1946, it was supposed to function as a kind of holding company and support party-owned or the SPD-related publishers and printers. The managing director was the former press chief of the SPD, Fritz Heine , and chairman of the supervisory board was the then treasurer Alfred Nau . The company was based in Hanover .

aims

The original task was the inexpensive purchase of paper and auxiliary materials, the joint training of editors and typesetters and the support of the associated companies by expert auditors. The concentration GmbH was not owned by the party, but by around 40 shareholders, who were largely identical to the affiliated companies. In the 1960s this holding company was involved in 26 newspaper publishers, 30 printing houses, five book and magazine publishers, eight bookstores and eight other companies and organizations.

History before 1933

The (first) concentration AG was founded in 1925 and dissolved by the Nazis in 1933. This company was completely in the hands of the SPD executive committee, it also owned the party publishers and printing houses of the time. In addition to technical advice and commercial revision, one of the tasks of concentration at that time was to exercise a strong centralistic influence on the content of the party-affiliated sheets. The editors of these publishers had to be members of the SPD. Concentration GmbH after 1946 could and should no longer have any influence on the personnel policy of the affiliated companies.
