Etting is a church village and district of the city of Rain in the Donau-Ries district , which belongs to the administrative district of Swabia in Bavaria . The hamlet of Tödting and the two single farms Brunnen and Kopfmühle also belong to the Etting district .

geography

Etting is located southeast of Rain in a side valley of the plateau of the Lower Lechrain of the Aindlinger Terrassentreppe . In terms of natural space, it belongs to the Danube-Iller-Lech-Platte , which in turn is part of the Alpine foothills , one of the main natural spatial units in Germany . Tödting is to the north, Kopfmühle to the southeast and Brunnen to the west of Etting.
The location of Etting is remote between the Rainer districts Gempfing and Wächtering , the Burgheim district Wengen and the Ehekirchen district Haselbach . South of Etting lies the community-free area and state forest Esterholz .

The place is on the district road DON 31 , which runs from Rain via Gempfing to the border with the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen before Haselbach . There it continues as the ND 13 district road to Walda , where it joins the state road St 2035 from Neuburg an der Donau to Augsburg .

history

Etting was first mentioned in 1100 under the name Ottingen . The following three noble families who owned properties were decisive in Ettingen's history: the Counts of Scheyern and later Wittelsbachers , the Counts of Lechsgemünd and later the Barons of Gumppenberg . The Graisbachers left their property to their home monastery Niederschönenfeld , which exchanged it for the St. Walburg monastery in Eichstätt. The Hofmark Walda and the Sandizeller also appear as landlords.

The church of St. Peter and Paul in Etting originally belonged to the Niederschönenfeld monastery, but has always been a subsidiary church of the parish of St. Vitus in Gempfing . The choir tower church is essentially a building from the 14th century. The altars were built in the second half of the 17th century. In 1939 an extension was made in the west. The baroque Pietà was created in 1922 by the sculptor Josef Auer .

The pilgrimage church of Sankt Anna in Tödting dates back to the 15th century. In the church there is an interesting holy water font with cross arms.

Until July 1, 1972, Etting belonged as an independent municipality to the district of Neuburg an der Donau and then fell to the district of Donau-Ries with the regional reform in Bavaria , which was called the district of Nördlingen-Donauwörth until May 1, 1973 . On January 1, 1975, the community Etting was incorporated into the city of Rain.
