geography

Kazakh border clearance in Qordai

Qordai is located on the Kazakh- Kyrgyz border , which is formed here by the approximately 40 m wide Shu river . The place is about 630  m above sea level on the right bank of the Schu, which in this section already has a valley depression over 30 km wide. The Kyrgyz capital Bishkek is located about 20 km southwest of Qordai . To the north-east of the village rise the mountains of the Schetichol mountain range, which are almost 1500  m high and further east they reach 2500  m and represent the northwestern foothills of the Transili-Alatau .

The place is the administrative center of the administrative district of the same name .

history

Because of poor harvests, massive numbers of Russian migrants moved south to what is now Kazakhstan in 1892. In 1893 these emigrants founded two villages in the Pischpek district . One of these villages was today's Qordai, which at that time was called Georgievka ( Георгиевка ). The residents mainly practiced agriculture, the river Schu was used for irrigation. The place continued to grow and by 1905 already had 606 inhabitants. A church was built which also housed a school.
