Kottewitz is located about 7 kilometers east-northeast of Nossen in the middle of Saxony.

Neighboring towns of Kottewitz are Heynitz in the north, Zwuschwitz , Miltitz and Weitzschen in the northeast, Munzig in the east, Burkhardswalde and Perne in the southeast, Rothschönberg in the south, Elgersdorf and Mergenthal in the southwest, Mahlitzsch in the west and Wunschwitz in the northwest.

history

The first documented form of place names dates from around 1203 as Chotwiz, molendium . Ecclesiastically it has belonged to Heynitz since the Reformation in 1539. In 1818 August Schumann mentions Kottewitz in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:

“Most of the village is owned, with 14 ½  hooves , script . to the Heynitz manor , the smaller one is directly under the heir. The place is parish with the houses below, which are called the mountain, to Heynitz. There is a very good limestone quarry near the village, and here, like in Heynitz, you can find yellow ocher. "

In 1935 Kottewitz was incorporated into Heynitz. On January 1, 2003, the Heynitz community was incorporated into the city of Nossen, making Kottewitz a part of the community of Nossen since then.
