Cancer societies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cancer societies are associations of medically and non-medically active people who deal with malignant neoplasms in humans. The individual cancer societies can be divided geographically (German, European or international societies). Some of them deal with special tumors, for example breast cancer, or they represent certain professional groups, for example internal oncologists or radiation oncologists . The cancer societies can perform the following tasks:

  • scientific research into malignant tumors
  • Publication of research results
  • Organization of congresses on tumors
  • Training of doctors in the field of oncology
  • Quality assurance of tumor treatment
  • Development of guidelines for tumor treatment
  • Certification of centers that treat tumors
  • Representation of professional interests of people working in oncology
  • Advising politicians on improving tumor therapy
  • Informing patients with cancer
  • Informing the public about the prevention and treatment of cancer
