The regional court of Leoben, founded on July 25, 1849, began operations on April 4, 1850. It moved to the former Dominican monastery founded in 1280 , which was then owned by the city of Leoben and has now been left to the judiciary. The building first had to be adapted for the new task and that lasted until the early summer of 1856. In addition to the regional court, the Leoben District Court, the Leoben public prosecutor and the prison were also housed in the former Dominican monastery. The district authority (until August 1932) and the regional gendarmerie command were also located here. Until 2005, the office building on Dominikanergasse housed the presidium and criminal law departments of the regional court as well as the public prosecutor's office and the Leoben prison.

The Leoben City Shopping center has been located in the buildings of the former Dominican monastery since the last offices located here moved to the Leoben Justice Center, which was completed in 2005 .

1958–2005: Erzherzog-Johann-Strasse

In 1954, due to the unsatisfactory space available in the Dominikanergasse official building, the decision was made to build a new building for the Leoben courts and the public prosecutor's office. In autumn 1955 construction began on the Archduke Johann-Straße 3, the end of 1956 took place the topping-out ceremony , and on May 7, 1958, the six-story building could be inaugurated. Until 2005 the district court and the civil law area of the regional court had their seat here, the other authorities and the prison remained in Dominikanergasse.

In the late autumn of 1989, the Leoben regional court moved into the Max-Tendler-Strasse extension as an extension of its previous building.

Since the move of the last judicial departments to the Justice Center in Leoben , which was completed in 2005 , the former official building on Erzherzog-Johann-Straße has been used by the Montanuniversität Leoben .
