geography

The place is on the border between the Rożnów Mountains in the west and Ciężkowice Mountains in the east, about three kilometers northwest of the city of Grybów .

The neighboring towns are Krużlowa Niżna in the north, Siołkowa in the east, Stara Wieś in the south, and Posadowa Mogilska in the west.

history

The place was first mentioned in documents as the church Smidlno in the Peterspfennigregister of the year 1335 in the deanery Neu Sandez of the diocese of Krakow . The original name Śmidlno or Smilno, of uncertain origin (after Borek possibly by Slovak * SMLD> smild- later metathesis smild-> smidl- and simplification to smiln-), was still in 1337 as Smidlo , 1348 as Smildno and 1356 as Smylna mentioned . The mention of Cruzlowa seu Noua Szmyldno in 1370, which was then transferred from Polish or Ruthenian law to Magdeburg law , made it possible to connect today's villages of Krużlowa (Niżna and Wyżna) with the early unidentified Śmidlno, although as early as 1356 Smylna had a Schulz named Jakub (after that in 1370 the Schulz was a certain Herman). The new possessive name Krużlowa is derived from the personal name Kruzel or Krużel (= Krążel // Krężel ) and appeared again in the years 1379 ( Krusloua ), 1412 ( Kroslowa ), 1420 ( Gruszlowa ), 1421 ( Cruszlowa , Crziszlowa ), 1428 ( Cruszlow ), 1440 ( Kruszlyowa ) etc., but was also replaced once in 1400 with the patronymic suffix - (ow) ice ( Krzuszlouicze ). Only in the early 17th century were two places distinguished: Krużlowa Niżna (about Nieder Krużlowa) and Krużlowa Wyżna (Ober Krużlowa) with the parish church.

The private village belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Sącz District.

After the First Partition of Poland, Krużlowa Wyżna became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1889 a Gothic sculpture made of limewood by Władysław Łuszczkiewicz and Stanisław Wyspiański was discovered there. In 1899 the Beautiful Madonna of Krużlowa was acquired by the National Museum in Cracow .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Krużlowa Wyżna came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it was part of the Krakow district in the Generalgouvernement .

From 1975 to 1998 Krużlowa Wyżna belonged to the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
