Limacon Foundation art collection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Limacon Foundation's art collection made headlines when the University of Leipzig opened an exhibition in June 2001 with alleged masterpieces of European painting “From Raffael to Monet”. The lender was the until then almost unknown Limacon Foundation, founded in 1992 and based in Liechtenstein . The attributions of the works to great masters of art history came from the Leipzig art historians Ernst Ullmann and Rainer Behrends as well as from the President of the Limacon Foundation, Palma Hamm.

Krochhochhaus Leipzig: The Limacon collection was presented here in the exhibition hall of the custody of the University of Leipzig

The presentation in the custody of the University of Leipzig was one of the biggest art scandals in German exhibition history. Numerous experts certified that the pictures exhibited under the greatest names were only second or third class. Due to the massive criticism, the exhibition was closed prematurely after a few weeks.
