Kurt Rydl

Kurt Rydl (born October 8, 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Rydl first studied biology and later moved to the Vienna Music Academy and the Moscow Conservatory . He was the winner of several competitions. For decades, Kurt Rydl has appeared on more than 50 stages in over 30 countries. He was repeatedly a guest at the Bayreuth Festival , in Schwetzingen, the Salzburg Festival , as well as at the festivals in Bregenz , Florence, Verona, Munich and Edinburgh. His repertoire includes over 130 roles in German, French, Italian, Czech and Russian subjects.

He made his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in 1976 as Ferrando in Il trovatore and has been a member of the Wiener Staatsoper ensemble ever since. There he was on stage more than 1150 times. a. as Ochs ( Der Rosenkavalier ), Titurel and Gurnemanz ( Parsifal ), Osmin ( The Abduction from the Seraglio ), Rocco ( Fidelio ), Daland ( The Flying Dutchman ), Colline ( La Bohème ), Pimen ( Boris Godunow ), Grand Inquisitor ( Don Carlos ), Komtur ( Don Giovanni ), Roger ( Jérusalem ), King Heinrich ( Lohengrin ), Raimondo ( Lucia di Lammermoor ), Geronte ( Manon Lescaut ), Talbot ( Maria Stuarda ), Veit Pogner ( Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ), Bartolo ( Il barbiere di Siviglia ), Sparafucile ( Rigoletto ), Fasolt ( Das Rheingold ), Hunding ( Die Walküre ), Fafner ( Siegfried ), Hagen ( Götterdämmerung ), Morosus ( The Silent Woman ), Landgraf ( Tannhäuser ), Claggart ( Billy Budd ) and Sarastro ( The Magic Flute ).

In 1986 he was appointed chamber singer . In 1999 Rydl is an honorary member of the Vienna State Opera.

In more than 2500 performances outside of Vienna he sang in all the big houses of the world, especially with Ochs, Hagen, Gurnemanz, Osmin, Morosus, Rocco, Boris (Lady Macbeth), Attila, Mephisto. Rydl was on stage at five opening premieres of La Scala in Milan , with Turandot, Parsifal, Götterdämmerung, Fidelio and Der Rosenkavalier.

Kurt Rydl is married and lives in Vienna, St. Wolfgang, Houston and Mallorca.
