Kurt von Ruffin

Kurt von Ruffin (born September 28, 1901 in Munich , † November 14, 1996 in Berlin ) was a German singer and actor.

Life

The son of the Bavarian officer Walther von Ruffin and his wife Olga geb. von Maffei attended the New Gymnasium in Würzburg from 1911 to 1917 , then the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich until he graduated in 1920 . He then studied singing with Eugen Robert Weiss and Wilhelm Rode . In 1926 he went to the Mozarteum in Salzburg , later, on Toscanini's recommendation, he was trained in Milan by Giuseppe Borghi .

In 1927 Kurt von Ruffin received an engagement at the opera in Magdeburg , then in Mainz and Nuremberg . From 1930 he was engaged at the Metropol Theater in Berlin. He sang and played in famous operettas such as Die Fledermaus and in revues at the Theater des Westens .

With the invention of the sound film, it was also used in several operetta films. Because of his homosexuality , he had to serve a few months in Lichtenburg concentration camp in 1934/35 . In 1936 he was banned from filming. Ruffin played for some time at the Deutsches Theater and from 1941 at the Theater am Nollendorfplatz . In 1942 he was allowed to take part in the Heinz Rühmann comedy I trust you my wife .

After the war Kurt von Ruffin continued to work in Berlin at the Komische Oper , the Theater am Kurfürstendamm , the Renaissance Theater and, from 1984, at the Staatliche Schauspielbühnen Berlin as an actor and singer. In the case of film, he was only occasionally cast. In 1991 Rosa von Praunheim made the documentary Proud and Gay about Ruffin and two other contemporary witnesses . As one of three contemporary witnesses, he reported about his experiences in the Lichtenburg concentration camp in the television report We had a capital A on our leg , which was broadcast by NDR and other third-party programs .
